Tips for the holiday season – the month of November & December is full of family, food and fun and there are usually lots of parties to attend. Some tips to avoid over-indulging during the holiday season include offering to bring a healthy dish to a get together, avoiding excess alcohol and snack intake, not arriving on an empty stomach, eating slower, choosing smaller portions and leaving the table when you are done eating.
Recipe of the Month
Cinnamon Apple Crisp
For the Filling:
1 medium apples (honey crisp or gala) peeled and sliced ¼ inch thick
1.5 oz raisins (small box)
¾ tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp cornstarch
¼ cup honey
For the Topping:
1 cup quick oats
3 tbsp light brown sugar (not packed)
1 tsp cinnamon
2 ½ tbsp butter, melted
1.) Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
2.) Combine apples, raisins, cinnamon, honey and lemon juice in a large bowl.
3.) Sprinkle with cornstarch. Toss until fruit is coated.
4.) Place fruit in an ungreased baking dish. Cover with foil and bake 15 minutes. Remove from the oven.
5.) Mix the remaining topping ingredients. Sprinkle over fruit.
6.) Bake about 60 minutes or until topping is golden brown and fruit is tender.
